CRYSTAL HARP: Memories (2011-2024)
IMPORTANT NOTICE
In 2024, we sold the Quartzophone business, along with the related intellectual property. As a result, we no longer manufacture or sell these instruments. For information about purchasing a Quartzophone, please contact the new owner at Quartzophone.ca.
THE BIRTH OF THE CRYSTAL HARP
After 12 years of intensive research and development, Gaudry Normand invented a new instrument that is both therapeutic and musical: the crystal harp was born in 2011. Mr. Normand protected this remarkable invention under the name Quartzophone and obtained multiple patents covering both its mechanism and its design.
HANDCRAFTED IN QUEBEC
From 2011 to 2024, every instrument was handcrafted with care in the Mine Cristal workshop in Bonsecours, Quebec. During this period, more than 3,500 instruments were sold around the world, finding their way into the hands — and hearts — of musicians, therapists, wellness centres, and sound enthusiasts.
A RICH DIVERSITY OF MODELS
Innovation continually shaped the evolution of the crystal harp. More than 20 different models were created, including the U-shaped, arched harp known as the “Crystal Lyre,” harps featuring frames crafted from rare woods such as ebony, bird's-eye maple, and purpleheart, as well as giant crystal harps. Special editions incorporating gold-plated and titanium tubes were also developed.
A CRYSTALLINE SOUND BATH
Our crystal harps are composed of pure quartz crystal tubes (99.9% SiO₂) suspended within a frame. Quartz crystal is a natural and noble material with exceptional vibrational properties. Tapping the tubes produces powerful, crystalline tones, where complementary frequencies combine to create a resonant, and omnidirectional sound bath.
