THE BIRTH OF THE CRYSTAL HARP

After 12 years of intensive research and development, Gaudry Normand invented an instrument that combined musical expression with profoundly therapeutic qualities: thus the crystal harp was born in 2011. Gaudry obtained many patents protecting the unique design and mechanisms. The invention was further protected by registering a trademark: Quartzophone.

HANDCRAFTED IN QUEBEC

From 2011 to 2024, every instrument was handcrafted with care in the Mine Cristal workshop in Bonsecours, Quebec. During this period, more than 3,500 instruments were sold, finding their way into the hands — and hearts — of musicians, therapists, wellness centres, and sound enthusiasts.

What began as a seed idea – an intuitive feeling about the sonic potential of quartz tubes – evolved into a brand new instrument that came to be appreciated by thousands of people around the world.

A RICH DIVERSITY OF MODELS

The evolution of the crystal harp was marked by continual innovation. Over a 13-year period, more than 20 different models were created, including the Crystal Lyre, with its distinctive, U-shaped, arched frame. Harps were produced with transparent, acrylic frames, as well as frames crafted from rare wood essences such as ebony, bird's-eye maple, and purpleheart. Limited editions were also produced, such as giant harps, and instruments incorporating precious metals, such as gold-plated or titanium-plated tubes.

A CRYSTALLINE SOUND BATH

Our crystal harps are composed of pure quartz crystal tubes (99.9% SiO₂) suspended over a frame. Quartz crystal is a unique, natural material with a geometric internal structure: this gives rise to its exceptional vibratory ability. Tapping the tubes produces powerful tones that are crystal clear.

What’s more, the harp’s complementary frequencies combine to create music that lends itself particularly well to relaxation and meditation: people say the crystal harp produces an immersive experience, a veritable “sound bath” that soothes and brings a sense of well-being.
